On June 19, 2025, Peoplestown Revitalization Corporation (PRC) launched the Peoplestown Express, the culmination of a community-driven effort to improve mobility and transportation options for residents of the neighborhood. The shuttle worked to close mobility gaps for residents in Peoplestown and other NPU-V neighborhoods.
This initiative was one of several pilots funded by The Atlanta Challenge that leveraged local leaders and entrepreneurs to address mobility challenges in the metro area. PRC was supported by the Partnership for Southern Equity’s Just Opportunity Portfolio and the Ford Foundation in its effort to launch the Peoplestown Express. The six-seater shuttle provided Peoplestown residents with connectivity to nearby commercial locations such as the Georgia State MARTA station, the new Publix shopping center, Southside Medical Center, Grady Hospital, and many other amenities.
As of July 15, 2026, shuttle service was halted with the startup of the MARTA Rapid A-Line that will provide a 5-mile roundtrip that connects Downtown Atlanta to the Capitol Gateway, Summerhill, Peoplestown, and the Atlanta Beltline. A-Line service also connects to MARTA’s heavy rail system at the Five Points, Georgia State, and Garnett Stations. This is essentially the same route as the Peopletown Express.
The first phase of A-Line service began April 18, 2026. Construction will be completed and final revenue service will begin in Fall 2026.
But the Shuttle is not “mothballed” forever! PRC is now working with local senior centers to repurpose the Peoplestown Shuttle. The proposed new program will provide door-to-door service from neighborhood senior centers to the commercial and medical service locations previously served by the earlier iteration of the shuttle.
If your organization is interested in working with the PRC to provide greater mobility to NPU-V seniors, please use the Contact Us form on the website or contact Columbus Ward at (404) 797-1195.
